The Essence of the Amazon: On Water and Land
Magical Amazon – Get ready for an unforgettable trip along the Tapajós and Arapiuns rivers, in the Amazon of Pará.
Located in the municipality of Santarém, in the state of Pará, this small village with less than 7.000 inhabitants is known worldwide for its warm and crystalline beaches of fresh water, typical cuisine, unique crafts, welcoming people and folkloric culture. Popularly known as the “Brazilian Caribbean” the place has already been elected as the most beautiful place in the world with its freshwater beaches by the English newspaper The Guardian.
Get ready for an unforgettable trip on the Tapajós and Arapiuns rivers, in the Paraense Amazon. In addition to experiencing a little bit of the daily life of the largest forest on the planet, feeling its unique scent and listening to the most diverse and enchanting sounds, we invite you to not only getting to know the natural beauties, but also the history and diversity of the people and traditions that give life to this place.
We will receive you at the airport for a transfer (approx. 40 min) in private cars to the village. Once we arrive in the village we will go straight to your hotel for check-in and other arrival procedures. After you settle in, we invite you to go for a walking tour with our host through the village, presenting the main points: the square, the waterfront, spaces for cultural events, shops of indigenous artwork and products from forest, restaurants, bars, market, pharmacy, bank, and other places of priority utility. Spend the evening as you please. Overnight stay at the hotel.
We meet at the hotel around 7:30 am to head to the Tapajós National Forest region, composed of a rich diversity of landscapes. Our journey there will be done by car and takes about 1 hour and a half. We will do a 2-hour trail through the native forest. After the walk, take some time to relax and enjoy a special lunch made by Dona Conci, a resident of the Jamaraqua community. In the afternoon we will get to know the handicrafts made of latex extracted from the rubber trees in the region and we will take a tour of the village of Belterra, which had an important role and a curious history during the rubber era in the region, with buildings that today are listed as historical heritage. We return to Alter in the late afternoon. Overnight stay.
Today our stop will be in another of the riverside communities in the region, where we will learn about the ancient tradition of making handicrafts with tucumã straw, a typical palm tree in the region. We will participate in a workshop with the artisans to learn a little about the colors, the dyeing processes and the characteristics of traditional braiding. Get ready, as it is practically impossible to leave without a piece! During the afternoon we invite you to relax on one of the beautiful freshwater beaches in the region. Dinner and overnight on board.
We will start the day at Canal do Jari, a location to spot a variety of birds in the region at this narrow stretch of the Amazon River. The channel is ideal for observing, early in the morning, animals such as alligators, iguanas and parrots, while sailing through narrow rivers and mangroves. After touring the region in small canoes, we return to the boat to continue our return trip to Alter do Chão. Lunch on board and disembark until 6 pm. Transfer to the hotel or airport.
On the way back to Alter do Chão, we will take a tour on the Green Lake (Lago Verde) and the Island of Love (Ilha do Amor) on a small motorboat taking stops for swimming. We will disembark at 12:00, after lunch, for transfer to the airport or hotel in the village.
