Morro da Babilônia – Rio de Janeiro With New Eyes
Morro da Babilônia, in Rio de Janeiro, is a little piece of privileged land with wonderful views of the most beautiful city in the world. This fact only should make your journey here worthwhile, but there’s more. The one-day itinerary can be divided into two parts. The first takes us straight to the universe of the favelas of Rio. The other shows us the creativity and social inclusion of the Favela Orgânica project.
Travel is much more than leisure and entertainment. It is an instrument for the transformation of mankind, and it is on this journey that we will embark.
This one-day itinerary takes us to a little-known, rural and sustainable Rio de Janeiro. We will get to know the habits and customs of these women who made alternative farming into a handicraft. We will experience the harvest of raw materials, preparation, and put our hands to use in the process while getting to know stories of persistence, resistance and survival of these women.
Our host will pick you up at your hotel to depart for Silva Jardim, a journey of approximately 2 hours with breathtaking views
The first stop of the experience will be at Engenho de Farinha, where everyone will have breakfast with the organic products grown on the farm. Time for presentations and matching the group up with local leaders.
After breakfast, we will go for a walk through the plantation of Palmito Pupunha Orgânico, where we will look at the leftover produce that the artisans use in the creation of handicrafts. There will also be a workshop about rooftop gardening.
After learning about extraction, we will learn how to prepare vegetable fibers and make craft paper with them. We will also learn about the types of VagPlac and their possibilities of use, After all that hard work you of course get to take your creation home with you!
Just as during breakfast, our lunch will be made from local products served with juices and desserts, together with a round of talks to finish this experience.
It’s time to head back with time on the way to reflect on the day’s experience. Arrival time in Rio is around 16h.
